On devices where you've already set up a passkey, tapping "Sign in with a passkey" now opens face or fingerprint verification right away—no extra selection screen in between. We've also redesigned the sign-in screen for those who don't use passkeys, so you see a simple layout centered on email sign-in links and Google sign-in from the start.
What's new in this update
We made three improvements around signing in.
- One-step passkey authentication: Previously, after tapping "Sign in with a passkey," you might see an extra screen asking which passkey to use. Now, if you've used a passkey on that device before, we skip that confirmation and take you straight to face or fingerprint verification.
- A sign-in screen that adapts to your device: On devices where you haven't used a passkey, we no longer put the passkey button front and center. Instead, you see a clearer screen focused on email sign-in links and Google sign-in.
- Automatic fallback when something goes wrong: If authentication can't start—for example, after you've deleted a passkey—we automatically guide you to another sign-in method, so you're never left at a dead end with an error.
Why we made this change
Your Bloomy account page is the kind of place you often open in a hurry—checking how much data you have left mid-trip, or adding more. We want the time you spend signing in to be as short as possible. Passkeys are convenient, but they can also be confusing: a button may appear even though you don't remember setting one up, or tapping it brings up an unfamiliar selection screen. So we've tuned both what you see and the steps you take, based on how each device is actually used.
What this means for you
- If you use passkeys: fewer steps between tapping the button and completing verification, for a smoother sign-in
- If you haven't set up a passkey: a simpler sign-in screen without options you don't use
- For everyone: the security behind sign-in is unchanged—we've only simplified the steps
Tip: set up a sign-in method that works while you travel
Bloomy offers three ways to sign in: passkeys, email sign-in links, and Google sign-in. Because Bloomy is designed for international travel, we deliberately avoid SMS verification codes.
This helps you sidestep a common travel headache: being locked out because you can't receive an SMS code abroad. Bloomy eSIMs are data-only—they don't come with a phone number, so voice calls and SMS sending/receiving aren't supported (apps that run over data, such as WhatsApp and FaceTime, work as usual for calls and messages; only phone-number calls and SMS are unavailable). If sign-in required SMS verification, you'd need a separate way to receive texts at your destination. An email sign-in link, on the other hand, reaches you anywhere in the world as long as you have a data connection. As with any mobile data service, connectivity depends on the local network, your device, and coverage in your area, and data use is subject to a fair use policy.
One small step we recommend before your trip: while you're still at home, sign in to your account page once and confirm that you can receive the sign-in email. If your device supports passkeys, that's also the perfect moment to set one up—then you can sign in with a single step once you arrive. And if you need to receive SMS verification codes from other services, such as your bank, while abroad, our articles on phone numbers and SMS cover this in detail.
The Bloomy touch
- Rather than pushing passkeys on everyone, we quietly show the fastest path only to those who actually use them
- If authentication doesn't work, you won't see technical error messages—we simply guide you to another sign-in method
- We've also refined the wording and layout of the sign-in screen so first-time users feel at ease
What's next
We plan to keep improving the sign-in experience step by step, guided by how it's used. Confirmed changes will be announced in our changelog.
