eSIM basics

How to check if your device supports eSIM

To use an eSIM, your device must support it. Here's how to check whether your phone is compatible.

On iPhone

Generally many models from iPhone XS onward support eSIM. Check whether “Add eSIM” or “Add Cellular Plan” appears under Settings > Mobile Data.

On Android

Many models such as Google Pixel and recent Samsung Galaxy support eSIM. Support varies by maker, model and where it was bought—look for “Download a SIM” or “Add eSIM” in Settings.

Watch out for SIM lock too

Even if eSIM-capable, a SIM-locked device may not be able to use an overseas eSIM. Please also check your unlock status.

Key points

  • Many iPhones from XS onward are supported
  • Many Androids like Pixel and recent Galaxy are supported
  • You need both eSIM support and an unlocked device
