If you're on Android and your data won't connect while travelling, you can now look up your plan's APN (the connection setting your phone needs) right from your account page and enter it on the spot. We've always shared setup details, but the APN that Android phones often need was easy to miss, and some people got stuck during setup. We've now tidied up how this information is shown and explained, so it's easier to fix a connection issue on your own (as of June 2026).
What we changed
This round was mostly about making the setup experience clearer.
- Your plan's APN now appears in the eSIM details on your account page (and you can copy it with one tap). We added a short Android-specific note alongside it.
- We added Android steps and instructions for adding an APN to the setup guide, so common sticking points are addressed before they come up.
- We reworded the setup instructions to make it clearer that Bloomy installs with a single tap on the setup link we send you. (QR codes and manual setup are still there as backups if the link doesn't work.)
None of this is a flashy new feature — it's the kind of quiet polish that helps first-time users, or anyone who hasn't used mobile data abroad in a while, get through setup without second-guessing themselves.
Why we made this change
Sometimes the eSIM was issued and activated correctly, yet data still wouldn't connect on Android simply because the APN hadn't been entered. iPhones usually apply the APN automatically, but on Android it can need to be added manually depending on the model and OS version. If you don't know about that difference, it's easy to assume something is broken.
So our goal was to let Android users — who tend to hit this snag — finish setup using only the information in front of them, without needing to reach out to us. Think of it as keeping the values you might need gathered in one place on your account page, so you're not scrambling to look things up after you arrive.
How do iPhone and Android handle the APN differently?
Even with the same eSIM, the way the APN is set can differ a little by device. Here's the difference at a glance.
| Device type | How the APN is handled | Where people get stuck |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone | Usually applied automatically | Occasionally needs a manual check or entry |
| Android | May need to be added manually, depending on the model and OS | Having to type in the APN name and connection details yourself |
* Behaviour can vary by device and settings. For the latest steps, please see the setup guide.
Where to look first when data won't connect abroad (good to know)
While we're on the topic, here are the basics worth checking when mobile data isn't working abroad. Most causes can be narrowed down by going through these in order:
- Is your data line set to the eSIM? (Make sure it hasn't stayed on your everyday line.)
- Is data roaming on? (This is what lets the eSIM connect to a local network abroad. Leave your main line as it is.)
- Is the APN set? (Especially on Android — the values differ from plan to plan.)
Once that's done, toggling airplane mode on and off, or restarting your phone, helps it grab the network again. Keep in mind that a travel eSIM is meant to connect only where its destination network is available, so it's normal for it not to connect in places the plan doesn't cover — set everything up before you leave, then confirm it's working once you're somewhere with signal. In spots with a weak signal, waiting a moment and trying again can also help. For detailed steps, see the setup guide and the troubleshooting page.
Even after entering an APN, a small typo (an extra space or a wrong character) can keep it from working. Copying the value from your account page and pasting it in as-is makes those mistakes much less likely.
Keeping it true to Bloomy
We tried to avoid jargon and focus on one thing: making it easy to know what to check, and in what order. Hard-to-read values like the APN are now shown on your own account page where you can copy them, so there's less to type by hand. Rather than playing on people's worries, we want guidance that leaves you thinking, "as long as I check here, I'll be fine." For first-time users especially, being able to reach the answer right in front of you the moment you get stuck is what makes it feel reassuring.
What's next
We'll keep refining how clear our setup experience is, little by little, based on the feedback you send us. We also plan to keep adjusting so we can handle device-by-device differences smoothly. These display and guidance improvements will roll out in stages, so if you notice anything, please let us know through our contact page.
Bloomy eSIMs are data-only: they don't include a phone number, SMS, or voice calling. A fair-use policy applies, and real-world speed and connection quality depend on the local network, your device, and where you are. Pricing and plan details are shown in USD — please confirm them at the time of purchase.
