Here is what this update changes, in one line. Our setup instructions now describe what you actually do — tap the setup link we send you — so it is clear from the first read that you do not need a QR scanner or a second device.
What changed in this update
Setting up a Bloomy eSIM takes one tap: open the setup link you receive after purchase, and the plan is added to your phone. Some of our wording, though, still said "scan the QR code to set up." That made the process look a step harder than it really is, so we have revised it as follows.
- Setup is now described as one consistent flow: tap the setup link you received → follow the on-screen prompts to add the plan → switch the line on once you arrive
- QR code and manual entry are now presented as alternatives — useful if you are setting the plan up from another device, and safe to skip if you are not
- Page descriptions (the summaries that appear in search results) now use the same wording
Why we rewrote it
Most eSIM guides treat scanning a QR code as the standard way in. Because of that, people reasonably assumed they needed a scanner, or a second phone to display the code. Neither is true here. When the words make something sound harder than it is, people hesitate — and that hesitation is what we wanted to remove.
What this means for you
If you are setting up for the first time, you will see straight away that everything happens on the one phone in your hand. Helping a family member is just as simple: send them the link and ask them to tap it. The steps themselves have not changed, so if you have already bought a plan, there is nothing you need to do.
One thing worth knowing as you plan: a Bloomy eSIM is data-only. It does not come with a phone number, SMS, or voice calling, so keep using WhatsApp or a similar app for messages and calls. All plans are subject to a fair use policy, and real-world speed and coverage vary with the local network, your device, and where you are standing.
Also worth knowing: what to do before you go, and what to do on arrival
What usually trips people up is not the steps themselves but knowing how much to finish before you leave home. Getting that split right makes travel day much easier.
Before you leave (on Wi-Fi at home)
- Check that your phone supports eSIM (compatible devices)
- Choose a plan that matches your destination, data needs, and trip length (comparison page)
- Tap the setup link you received and get the plan added to your phone
Adding a plan requires an internet connection, so it is best done somewhere with a stable signal. Activation timing differs from plan to plan, so check the instructions that came with your purchase to see whether you should switch the line on right after adding it, or wait until you land.
Once you arrive
- Turn off airplane mode
- Switch on the Bloomy line you added earlier
- Check your data roaming setting
At that point your data is live. If you have kept your home-country line switched on as well, take a moment to confirm that Bloomy is the line selected for mobile data. That one check is what keeps you from picking up unexpected roaming charges from your home operator.
If it will not connect
Try not to delete the plan in a panic — putting it back takes time you would rather spend elsewhere. Start with the basics: toggle airplane mode off and on, restart the phone, then check which line is selected for data. If none of that helps, the full sequence is in connection troubleshooting.
What we are working on next
When the wording drifts even slightly from what you see on screen, it creates doubt. We will keep going through our other pages the same way, reading them side by side with the actual setup screens and tightening them up.
