What's changed in this update
After you purchase an eSIM, it takes a short time before it's ready to hand over to you (usually just a few minutes). During this window, the eSIM card on your account page shows a "Preparing" status — and we've now reworked this entire experience. Here's what's different:
- Cards that are still preparing now show what's actually happening, such as "Confirming your order," "Retrieving eSIM details," or "Preparing setup information"
- When preparation finishes, only that card switches to its ready-to-set-up state, right where it is — no full page reload
- Buttons like "Set up eSIM" and "Send as a gift" now appear only once they can actually be used
- When your eSIM is ready, we automatically send you a "Your eSIM is ready" email

Why we made these improvements
The old experience had a few rough edges. Buttons could appear slightly before everything was ready, so tapping at the wrong moment could lead to an error. When preparation finished, the whole page could suddenly refresh, which was jarring. And the message asking you to "keep this page open" gave the impression you had to wait there — when in fact you didn't.
With this update, what you see on screen now matches what's actually happening behind it. "The button is visible but doesn't work" and "I tapped it and got an error" simply can't happen anymore. Getting ready for a trip involves a lot of small checks, and while each one is minor, little moments of confusion add up. The minutes right after purchase are when you're most eager to get going — so we prioritized accuracy and peace of mind in exactly that moment.
What this means for you
The biggest change: you're free to wait however you like. Since we email you when your eSIM is ready, you can close the page after purchase and get back to packing, or browse other sites — no problem. When the email arrives, come back and go straight to setup.
If you do keep the page open, nothing will refresh unexpectedly — the moment your eSIM is ready, only that card smoothly switches to its ready state. Your scroll position stays put, so you won't lose your place. And if you've purchased several eSIMs at once, each card accurately shows its own status, so it's easy to tell which ones are ready and which are still preparing.

The best time to set up
We recommend adding your eSIM before you leave — for example at home, on a stable Wi-Fi connection. It's far calmer than rushing through setup at the airport or on the plane, and once you land, all you need to do is switch the line on.
Install your eSIM while you have a reliable internet connection, then turn the line on after you arrive. When your plan actually starts (activation) can vary by plan, so please also check the details provided at the time of purchase.

Can't find the "ready" email?
If the email doesn't seem to have arrived, check your spam folder or promotions tab — it sometimes ends up there. And even without the email, you can always check your eSIM's status on your account page; if it's ready, you can proceed straight to setup from there.
A few things worth checking before setup
To use an eSIM, your smartphone needs to support eSIM. If you bought your phone through a carrier, it's also worth confirming it's carrier-unlocked. See the compatible devices page for details.
Also, Bloomy eSIMs are data-only: they don't come with a phone number, so voice calls and SMS aren't available. App-based calls that run over data — WhatsApp, Messenger, FaceTime, and the like — work as usual. If you'll need a phone number or SMS verification during your trip, consider a local SIM or another option alongside your eSIM.
Details we cared about, the Bloomy way
You may notice we deliberately avoided a progress bar (the "75%" kind) in the preparing status. A percentage we can't guarantee to be accurate would only create more anxiety, not less. Instead, we tell you in a few plain words what's happening right now, with a subtle animation that simply signals "things are moving."
We also reviewed every piece of wording, choosing phrases that actually convey the situation rather than settling for a single "Preparing" label. This status display is available in English as well as Japanese, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Korean, Spanish, and French — so you get the same clarity whichever language you use.
