We’ve Improved Our Post-Purchase Emails: Issuance Estimates, Low-Data Alerts, and 7-Language Support

To take the guesswork out of questions like "When will my eSIM arrive?" and "How much data do I have left?", we've given the email notifications you receive from Bloomy a full refresh. Right after purchase, we now tell you how long issuance typically takes; while you're traveling, we reach out when your remaining data starts running low — before you have to come looking. On top of that, emails now arrive in the language you chose at checkout. In this article, we'll walk through what's changed, what to do when a low-data alert lands in your inbox, and where to look if an email seems to be missing.

What you'll learn in this article
  • Issuance estimate (typically within 5 minutes) is now stated in the email
  • You'll get an alert when your remaining data drops below 500MB
  • Short-term VPN plans get a reminder the day before expiry
  • Emails arrive in the language you chose at checkout (7 languages)
  • When data runs low, you can top up or purchase a new eSIM

What's new in this update

  • Issuance estimate added to the purchase confirmation email: The email now clearly states that your eSIM is typically issued within 5 minutes of payment, along with what to do next (tap the setup link in the email, follow the on-screen steps to add the eSIM, then turn the line on when you arrive). The same guidance has been added to the checkout confirmation page.
  • An alert when your data runs low: When your remaining data drops below 500MB, we'll let you know by email. Instead of finding out only after you've run out, you can plan your next step while you still have data to spare.
  • Day-before expiry reminders for short-term VPN plans: If you're on a 7-day or 15-day plan, we'll send a reminder around one day before it expires. If you're on an auto-renewing plan, you'll receive a separate heads-up before the next renewal. We chose these timings so you're never caught off guard by a connection that suddenly stops working.
  • Emails in the language you chose at checkout: We now support Japanese, English, Spanish, French, Korean, and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional). Purchase confirmations and setup instructions arrive in the language you selected when you made your purchase.

Why we made these changes

In our experience, the two moments that cause the most anxiety with an eSIM are right after you pay and when your data starts running low mid-trip. Immediately after purchase, not knowing whether the order went through — or when you'll actually be able to use it — is unsettling. And during a trip, constantly keeping one eye on your remaining data is a stress of its own. In both cases, we believe it's far more reassuring when the information comes to you before you have to go looking for it, so we reworked both the content and the timing of our notifications.

And because this is a service you use abroad, receiving an important notice in a language you don't read comfortably is a small burden in itself. The 7-language support comes from the same idea: this update is about reducing the effort it takes to read what we send you.

What this means for you

The biggest change is that the information you need now comes to you, rather than you having to go digging for it. One glance at your purchase confirmation email tells you that your eSIM is typically issued within 5 minutes and that a setup link is on its way, so there's no second-guessing while you wait. We set the low-data alert at 500MB — a point where you still have enough breathing room to add data or consider your next plan. It helps you avoid the scramble of suddenly losing your connection while abroad.

Here's a summary of the notifications introduced in this update:

NotificationWhen it arrivesApplies to
Purchase confirmation email (with issuance estimate)After payment is completedAll purchases
Low-data alertWhen remaining data drops below 500MBFixed-data plans with more than 1GB total
Expiry reminderAround one day before expiry7-day and 15-day VPN plans
Renewal noticeBefore the next renewalAuto-renewing plans

Note that low-data alerts apply to fixed-data plans with a total allowance of more than 1GB. For eSIMs with auto top-up enabled, data is added automatically so your connection continues without interruption, which is why we skip this alert for them. Unlimited-style plans have no concept of "remaining data," so they're not included either. You can check your remaining data anytime on My Account.

The Bloomy touch

The more notifications we send, the less they get read. So the top priority in this update was making sure emails arrive only when they truly matter. Low-data alerts aren't sent over and over, and we chose subject lines that tell you what's inside at a glance. For the 7-language support, rather than relying on word-for-word machine translation, we reviewed the phrasing in each language one by one. We also kept technical jargon to a minimum, writing every message with one question in mind: will someone using an eSIM for the first time know exactly what to do next?

Running low on data? Topping up vs. buying a new eSIM

When a low-data alert arrives, you have two main options: add data to the eSIM you're already using (a "top-up") or purchase a new eSIM. Each suits a different situation.

Key point

As a rule of thumb: if you're staying on in the same country, top up; if your destination or the way you use data is changing, buy a new eSIM.

Your situationRecommended
Staying on in the same countryTop up (keeps your setup — no extra steps)
Moving on to another countryPurchase a new eSIM
More video or tethering — your usage has changedConsider a different plan, such as an unlimited-style option

A top-up adds data directly to the eSIM you're already using. There's no swapping or re-setup involved, so if you're continuing your stay in the same country, it's the lowest-effort option. You can top up from the relevant eSIM on My Account (available amounts and top-up support vary by plan, so please check what's shown on screen).

On the other hand, if your next destination is different or your usage itself has changed, a new eSIM is usually the better fit. Use the eSIM comparison page to search by destination, data amount, and trip length, and switch to a plan that matches your next leg. If it's your first time setting one up, the steps are covered in our setup guide.

Can't find the email? Check these first

Well-designed notifications only help if the emails actually reach you. If your purchase confirmation email doesn't seem to have arrived, checking in the following order usually turns it up.

  • Check your spam folder and other folders: Automatic filtering by your email provider may have moved the message somewhere other than your inbox.
  • Check the email address you entered at purchase: A small typo at checkout can keep the email from reaching you.
  • Check My Account: Details of your purchased eSIMs and your remaining data are also available on My Account, making it a useful place to look when an email is nowhere to be found.

If that doesn't resolve it, please reach out via our contact page. And if you're having trouble getting connected at your destination, see our guide on what to do when you can't connect.

A few things worth keeping in mind

If a low-data alert prompts you to add data or rethink your plan, here are three basics worth revisiting.

  • Bloomy eSIMs are data-only: They don't include a phone number, so voice calls and SMS aren't supported. App-based calls that run over data — WhatsApp, Messenger, FaceTime, and the like — work as usual. If you need a phone number or SMS, consider alternatives such as a local SIM or a plan that includes a number.
  • Connection speeds depend on local conditions: Actual speeds vary with the local network, coverage in your area, your device, and congestion at busy times. If you're planning on heavy video streaming or tethering, choosing a plan with some extra headroom is a safe bet.
  • Unlimited-style plans may come with usage conditions: Even on unlimited-style plans, fair use policies may apply, and speeds may change after a certain amount of usage. Tethering support also varies by plan, so please check the latest details on the plan page before you buy.

What's next

We'll keep fine-tuning the wording and timing of these notifications based on how they're actually used, always aiming for that balance of "not too many, and only when they truly matter." You can follow improvements like this one on our changelog.
