With this update, the Bloomy interface can now be read in Simplified Chinese, Korean, and Spanish, in addition to Japanese and English — so travelers who are more comfortable in those languages have an easier time before and after purchase. When you're getting your phone ready for a trip abroad, just being able to read the details in a language close to your own takes a lot of the stress out of it. As a first step, we've rolled out UI display support for these three languages (phase one).
What's in this update
We've added the following three languages to the Bloomy eSIM interface (all at the phase-one level):
- 简体中文 (Simplified Chinese)
- 한국어 (Korean)
- Español (Spanish)
Where a translation isn't ready yet, the text won't appear blank or fall back to Japanese — it's shown in English instead. This is designed to avoid the situation where "not yet translated" means "information is missing," so that whichever language you choose, the actual content stays complete. We plan to expand the accuracy and coverage of our translations step by step.
Why we made this change
The people using eSIMs abroad come from all over. Travelers heading out for a long stay, students studying abroad, vacationers, and people whose first language isn't English all share the same worries: "Will I actually get connected once I'm there?" and "Is the setup going to be difficult?"
How easy the text is to read ties directly into peace of mind. This matters especially for eSIMs, because after you buy one there are setup steps like "scan the QR code" and "activate the line" — so we felt it was important for the instructions to display in a language you can understand easily. We're starting with these three widely used languages.
How this helps you
Here are a few situations where it comes in handy:
- If Chinese, Korean, or Spanish is easier for you to read, you can review plan details and important notes in a language closer to your own.
- When you recommend Bloomy to family or friends, they can view it in a language that's comfortable for them.
- Because untranslated sections still appear in English, the display never cuts off and you can read all the way through.
Being able to calmly choose the right data amount and number of days also helps you avoid buying too much — or not enough.
Column: Getting connected when you're worried about the language barrier
On the topic of language display, here are a few things worth preparing if it's your first time using your phone abroad.
1. Set up translation apps for offline use, too
When you're stuck on the language locally, a translation app is a real lifesaver. Most apps assume an internet connection, but for the languages you use most, it helps to download the offline data in advance so they still work where the signal is weak. And when you have a working data connection through your eSIM, online translation runs smoothly as well.
2. Lean on apps that work over data
Bloomy plans are data-only — they don't include a phone number, SMS, or voice calls. So for staying in touch with family and friends, it's easiest to plan around apps that work over a data connection (such as WhatsApp, WeChat, KakaoTalk, or whatever is commonly used by the people and regions you're connecting with). If you genuinely need a phone number or SMS verification, it's worth also looking into other options, such as a plan that includes a number or a local SIM.
3. Finish setup before you leave
The less confident you are with the language, the more you'll want to avoid fumbling with setup after you arrive. In most cases, the reassuring approach is to install the eSIM before departure and activate the line once you reach your destination. That said, activation timing varies by plan, so please check the instructions before you buy.
The detail we cared about
For this rollout, instead of just "machine-translating everything and calling it done," we chose to fall back to English for untranslated parts so the content is never lost. We'd rather make sure the information reaches you correctly than risk causing confusion with a half-finished translation. We'll keep refining a display that's gentle and easy to follow, a little at a time.
What's coming next
Since this is phase one, not every piece of text is translated into each language yet. Going forward, we plan to gradually widen the scope and accuracy of our translations and to cover the main body of static pages over time (details are still being worked out, so nothing here is final). We'll keep improving readability and clarity, step by step.
