We've added a confirmation screen that lets you review your plan details and the total amount before completing a data top-up. Nothing is charged until you tap the confirm button, so a stray tap on the screen can no longer turn into an accidental purchase. Alongside this, we've smoothed out how the plan list loads and refined the low-data notifications, polishing the whole top-up experience. In this article, we'll walk through what's changed and share a few pointers on getting the most out of top-ups.
- Review your plan details and price before you buy
- No charge until you tap the confirm button
- The plan list now loads more smoothly
- No duplicate low-data alerts while auto top-up is on
- When to top up vs. when to buy a new eSIM
What's new in this update
This update brings three changes. Each one is designed to make adding data — an everyday task — calmer and easier to get right.
1. A confirmation screen before purchase
When you add data from your account, selecting a plan and tapping the purchase button now opens a confirmation screen first. It brings together the data amount, validity period, price, and when you'll be charged — all in one view — and payment only happens once you tap "Confirm purchase."
Tap "Back" or anywhere outside the panel and you'll return to the plan list without being charged. If you're wondering whether a plan is enough for the rest of your trip, you can now take a moment to look everything over before deciding.
2. Smoother plan list loading
Previously, the top-up plan list appeared all at once after loading finished, which could make the screen jump around the moment you opened it. Now, while the list loads, placeholder frames of the same height appear first and are then replaced with the actual content. Once you've opened the list, it also appears instantly the next time.
When you're abroad, connection quality can change from place to place, and loading sometimes takes a moment. Showing the placeholder frames first means you can see where everything will appear while you wait — removing that small frustration of tapping a button just as it shifts position.
3. Smarter low-data alerts when auto top-up is on
Low-data notifications are no longer sent for eSIMs that have auto top-up enabled. Since auto top-up refills your data automatically, there's no need for an alert telling you the same thing. If you switch auto top-up off, low-data notifications resume automatically.
While you're traveling, too many notifications can bury the ones that really matter. This change removes the mixed message of "your data will refill automatically — but also, your data is running low," so every notification you receive actually means something.
Why we made this change
On a phone, a flow that goes straight from the plan list to payment leaves room for a purchase to go through before you notice you tapped the plan next to the one you wanted. And when you're abroad, you're often tapping through screens on a moving bus or in an unfamiliar setting — not always the calmest moment to press a button.
In online commerce, there's a well-established principle: let customers review what they're ordering and what it costs before the order is final. Bloomy's top-up flow now follows that same principle, adding a brief pause to check the details before you confirm. It means you can browse and compare plans freely, without worrying about a mistaken tap.
When this comes in handy
- Running low on data mid-trip: Even if you're in a hurry, you can verify the data amount and price before confirming — reducing the chance of buying a plan you didn't intend.
- Checking exactly what you'll pay: The confirmation screen follows your selected display currency, so you can see the amount you're about to pay — in USD, for example — before you commit.
- Managing multiple eSIMs: You can see at a glance which plan is about to be added to which eSIM before anything is final.
Quick guide: top up, or buy a new eSIM?
When your data is running low, it's not always obvious whether to add data to your current eSIM (a top-up) or buy a new one. Here's a simple way to decide.
| Situation | Best option |
|---|---|
| Staying in the same destination and just need more data | Top-up (no reinstall needed — data is added straight to your current eSIM) |
| Heading to a new destination, or want different validity or terms | New purchase (find a plan that fits on the comparison page) |
| Want data refilled automatically, without watching your balance | Auto top-up |
When a top-up makes sense
The big advantage of a top-up is that there's no eSIM swap or setup to redo — your current connection simply continues. If you're staying in the same destination and only need more data, a top-up is the least hassle. And if your stay might run long, or checking your balance feels like a chore, turning on auto top-up keeps your data refilled automatically.
When a new eSIM makes sense
If your next destination is different, or you want to rethink the validity period or data amount, choosing a fresh plan that matches your trip can be the better fit. Available plans, prices, and terms can vary by country and region, so please check the latest details on the comparison page at the time of purchase. Also keep in mind that connection speed and signal depend on the local network, coverage area, and congestion — leaving yourself a little extra data headroom is a good idea.
Bloomy eSIMs are data-only. Top-ups add data allowance only — there's no phone number, so voice calls and SMS aren't available. App-based calling over data, such as WhatsApp, Messenger, and FaceTime, works as usual. If you need a phone number or SMS, please consider an additional solution. As with all Bloomy plans, data usage is subject to our fair use policy, and actual speeds vary with the local network, your device, and coverage area.
How to top up: three steps
Adding data takes just three steps.
- Open your account and select the eSIM you want to add data to
- Choose the plan with the data amount you need from the top-up list
- Review the data amount, validity, and price on the confirmation screen, then tap "Confirm purchase"
A top-up is added directly to your existing eSIM, so there's no swapping or reinstalling. If you buy a new eSIM instead, setup is one tap on the link you receive, followed by the on-screen steps — then simply switch the line on when you arrive. For detailed instructions, see the setup guide, and if you have trouble connecting, check the troubleshooting guide.
The details we sweated over
- An unbroken flow: The confirmation appears within the same screen — no page navigation — so you never lose your place mid-purchase.
- No ambiguity about payment timing: The screen states clearly that payment happens as soon as you confirm, so there's no lingering doubt about when you'll be charged.
- The same clarity in every language: The screen follows all six supported languages and your selected display currency, so the experience is just as clear whichever language you use.
What's next
We'll keep refining the top-up experience — including how data balances are displayed and when notifications arrive. We'll share confirmed changes on the changelog and in announcements.
