Introducing Gifting: Send an eSIM to Family and Friends

You can now send an eSIM you haven't started using to family or friends with a single link — our new "Gift" feature. Heading-off relatives, a friend studying abroad — you can quietly hand over their connectivity even after you've already bought it.

What you can do with Gifting

In your account, any "eSIM you haven't started using yet" will show a "Gift" button. Tap it to create a gift link, then simply copy it and send it to the recipient via WhatsApp or any messaging app. The recipient opens the link, logs in, and taps "Receive" — and that eSIM is added to their own account.

  • You can only gift an eSIM that hasn't been started yet (not yet activated)
  • A gift can be received once; once it's received, it moves out of the sender's list
  • The payment record (receipt) stays with the person who made the purchase

Why we built it

"I want to set up connectivity for a family member traveling abroad," "I'd love to give this to a friend going to study overseas" — until now, there was no easy way to do this. Because an eSIM is an intangible product, we wanted a way to pass it along with a personal touch. That's the thinking behind the Gift feature.

When it comes in handy

  • Giving local connectivity to a family member heading off on a trip or business travel
  • A small parting gift for a friend leaving for study abroad or a working holiday
  • Setting things up in advance for a family member who isn't comfortable with phone settings

The recipient can set it up and start using it once they arrive at their destination. You can also walk through the steps on our eSIM setup guide.

How to choose the eSIM you gift (data, days, destination)

Since it's a gift, you'll want to pick a plan that won't leave the recipient stuck while they're away. Before you send, these three points make the choice easier.

What to considerHow to think about it
Destination (country / region)First, check that the recipient's destination is covered. We're adding more countries and regions over time.
Length of useFor a trip, allow a little extra beyond the number of days they'll be away; for study or a longer stay, choose a plan that matches the period.
Data amountFor mostly maps and messaging, a smaller plan works; if they often use photos, video, or calling apps, lean toward more.

As a rough guide, a trip centered on maps and checking social media might use a few hundred MB to around 1GB per day, while heavy video streaming or video calls may need more (these are only estimates and vary with how it's used). The plans, prices, and terms actually available can differ by country and region, so please check the latest details on the comparison page before you send. You can match your choice to the recipient's destination, length of stay, and data needs.

What to know before you send

Bloomy eSIM is data-only. A gifted eSIM is also for local data use. It does not come with a phone number, SMS (text messaging) verification, or voice calling, so if the recipient needs any of those, it's worth lining up another option as well. App-based calling such as WhatsApp may work wherever a data connection is available.

Also, you can only gift an eSIM that hasn't been started yet. Sending it a little ahead of the recipient's departure gives them time to set things up without rushing once they arrive. Keep in mind, too, that connection quality can vary depending on the local network, the area, the device, and times of congestion.

Helping the recipient get started smoothly

Receiving a gift requires the recipient to log in with their own Bloomy account. If they don't have one yet, they can register after opening the link and then tap "Receive." The gifted eSIM goes into their account, so the usual flow is to install it before departure and activate it after arriving. Activation guidance can differ by plan, so it helps to follow the on-screen instructions before setup. If they run into trouble, point them to our FAQ as well.

The Bloomy touches we cared about

We designed the gift-receiving screen with the Bloomy mascot and softly drifting flower motifs, so the moment of receiving feels a little brighter. We wanted it to arrive not as something purely transactional, but as a warm, thoughtful gift.

What's next

We're continuing to explore ways to make gifts feel more personal — such as letting you add the sender's name or a short message. If anything comes to mind, we'd love to hear from you through our contact page.
