So you find out before your connection stops abroad, we now send email alerts when your data is running low and when your plan is close to expiring. Instead of a percentage like "about 20% left," the alert tells you the actual figure — for example, "250MB remaining."
What's new
Alerts are sent at three points:
- When your data is running low — with the exact amount remaining
- When your data is used up — letting you know the connection has stopped
- When your plan is nearing expiry — roughly three days before
Each alert also links straight to the top-up screen in My Account. Previously you had to open My Account, find the right eSIM, and hunt for the add-data option — that detour is gone.
Why we built it
Abroad, the real problem usually isn't running out of data. It's not realizing you're about to run out, and losing your connection without warning. You reach for the map, or try to message the person picking you up, and only then discover the line is dead. That's the moment we most wanted to prevent.
We used to show the remaining amount as a percentage, but "20% left" means very different things on a large plan versus a small one. To give you something you can actually act on, the real number is the more reliable way to say it.
Running low: top up, or buy a new eSIM?
When an alert arrives, you have two options — add data to your current eSIM, or buy a new one. Which makes more sense depends on your situation, so here's a rough guide.
When topping up your current eSIM makes sense
You're staying in the same country and just need a bit more data. Topping up is the simpler route: there's nothing to reconfigure on your device, and you keep using the line you're already connected to. Buying a new eSIM means installing and setting it up from scratch.
When buying a new eSIM makes sense
If you're moving on to the next country, or your stay has stretched well beyond the original plan and your needs have changed significantly, it's often clearer to pick a plan that matches the new conditions. And if the destination is different, your current eSIM won't work there at all — each plan covers specific countries.
| Situation | Better option | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Same country, just a little short | Top up your data | Keep going with no setup to redo |
| Moving on to the next country | Choose a plan for that destination | Coverage is set per plan |
| Your stay has been extended a lot | Pick a plan that fits the new dates | Your data and duration needs have changed |
| Your trip ends in a few days | A small top-up may be enough | Avoid paying for data you won't use |
With some plans, topping up also extends the usable period — but this doesn't apply to every plan, so check what's shown in My Account before you complete the purchase. Looking for a plan for your next destination? The eSIM comparison page lets you search by country, data amount, and number of days.
Making sure the alerts reach you
Alerts go to the email address you used at purchase. Notifications can behave differently when you're travelling, so it's worth checking these few things before you leave:
- Can you actually access that email address while you're away?
- Are your spam filters set unusually strictly?
- Can you still sign in to My Account?
Even if an alert doesn't reach you, you can check your remaining data in My Account at any time. On long travel days, or days with a lot of video streaming, a quick check now and then is worth the peace of mind.
The details we cared about
We deliberately avoided wording that pushes you to buy more. The alert states the fact — this is how much you have left — and leaves the decision to you. We also make it clear that these are service notifications, not marketing emails, so they're easy to tell apart.
You'll also notice the expiry alert never says "you can extend your plan." That's because we don't offer a way to extend the validity period itself. Not writing things we can't back up is a rule we intend to keep.
What's next
We're looking at smaller refinements, such as letting you choose when you receive alerts. We'll keep adjusting as we see how the feature is actually used.

Information correct as of July 2026. Plan contents and terms may change; please confirm the current details, including pricing in USD, at the time of purchase. Bloomy eSIMs are data-only — they do not include a phone number, SMS, or voice calls. All plans are subject to a fair usage policy, and actual speeds and connection quality vary depending on the local network, your device, and your location.
