You Can Now Choose "Log in with Email" Even If You Use Passkeys

If you log in with a passkey, you can now switch to "Log in with email" at any time. In addition, when you open our site from an in-app browser — such as the ones built into Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp — email login is now shown from the start. Whatever environment you open Bloomy from, a clear way to log in is always right there on the screen.

What this article covers
  • You can switch to email login even while using passkeys
  • In-app browsers now show email login from the start
  • Email login is as simple as opening the link we send you
  • Your biometric data is never sent to our site
  • What to check if you get stuck logging in

What's new in this update

  • A permanent "Log in with email" link: On devices with a passkey set up, the login screen used to focus on the passkey button. We now always show a "Log in with email" link right below it, available in six languages including English.
  • Email login shown first in in-app browsers: When you open a Bloomy link from inside an app such as Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp, passkeys may not work depending on the environment — so we show email login from the start.

Neither change asks you to learn anything new. The goal is simply to make sure the screen in front of you always offers a way forward. There's nothing you need to change on your end.

Why we made this improvement

Passkeys are a fast, secure way to log in with your fingerprint or face — no password to remember. That said, there are situations where they don't work: you might be on a device you don't normally use, or viewing the site inside an app's built-in browser. On the previous screen, the alternative path wasn't obvious in those moments, and some users got stuck when the instructions didn't match what they saw.

Logging in is the gateway to almost everything on Bloomy — buying an eSIM, checking the plans you've purchased, and more. If you get stuck at the door, the thing you actually came to do — getting ready before a trip, or checking your plan while abroad — stalls with it. That's why we redesigned the screen so you can move forward no matter where you open it from.

What this means for you

Anywhere login is required — during checkout, or when checking your eSIM in My Account — you can now get through regardless of your environment. For example:

  • When a family member or friend shares a Bloomy link with you on WhatsApp and you want to open it and complete your purchase right there
  • When you're on an unfamiliar device or browser and the passkey prompt doesn't appear properly
  • When you're abroad and want a login method that reliably works with whatever you have on hand

Good to know: what an "in-app browser" is

When you tap a link inside apps like Instagram or Facebook, the page may open in the app's built-in mini browser rather than in Safari or Chrome. In that environment, certain features — including passkeys and some third-party login methods — may not work. This isn't specific to Bloomy; it's a general limitation of in-app browsers that affects many websites. If something isn't working, try either of the following:

  • Stay on the same screen and use "Log in with email" — just open the link we send to your email address and you're in.
  • From the menu (usually in the top corner), choose "Open in browser" or "Open in Safari" — once you're in a regular browser, passkeys work as usual.
Good to know

With this update, in-app browsers show email login from the start — so in most cases you can log in right where you are, without switching browsers at all.

Why Bloomy doesn't use SMS verification for login

Bloomy eSIMs are data-only plans: they don't include a phone number, voice calls, or SMS. (Calls made through apps that use data — WhatsApp, Messenger, FaceTime, and the like — work as usual.) That's why our login is built around email and passkeys rather than SMS codes. Even if your regular SIM is switched off while you travel, you can log in as long as you can receive email — a design that fits naturally with a data-only eSIM. If you'll need to receive SMS verification codes on your regular number while abroad (for banking apps, for example), it's worth checking how to keep that number active before you leave.

How safe are passkeys? Your biometric data never leaves your device

If passkeys make you uneasy, here's the reassuring part: your fingerprint or face data is never sent to Bloomy. Biometric verification happens entirely on your own device, and the only thing our site receives is the result — "identity confirmed." Because there's no password-like secret that could be stolen or reused across sites, passkeys offer real security benefits on top of their speed. Still, since there are environments where they can't be used, we keep the email option permanently visible as an alternative path.

Tip: making sure you can receive login emails while traveling

Email login requires a connection that can receive email. Checking a few things before departure will save you scrambling on arrival:

  • Make sure the email address you use for login is set up in a mail app (such as Gmail) on the phone you're taking with you
  • Right after landing, airport or hotel Wi-Fi will do the job — though free Wi-Fi can be unreliable depending on the location
  • With eSIM data, you can receive email even on the move, which gives you extra peace of mind

Keep in mind that eSIM speed and stability can vary with local network conditions, coverage area, and congestion at different times of day. Unlimited-style plans may also come with usage conditions such as a fair use policy, so it's worth reviewing the latest terms on our comparison page before you travel. Setting up the eSIM itself takes just one tap on the setup link we send you, then following the on-screen steps — if it's your first time, the setup guide is worth a quick read too.

What to check if login isn't working

If email login isn't going through, run down this list in order:

  • Is the email address typed correctly? — Typos are especially easy to make on unfamiliar or foreign-layout keyboards
  • Did the email land in your spam folder? — Login emails sometimes get filtered there
  • Are you in an in-app browser? — Reopening the page in a regular browser (Safari, Chrome, etc.) often resolves the issue
  • Is your connection stable? — Check your Wi-Fi or mobile data connection as well

If none of that solves it, take a look at our FAQ or the troubleshooting guide, or reach out via our contact page.

The Bloomy way: details we cared about

We kept everything that makes passkeys fast and secure — and made sure the alternative path is always in plain sight. When you're abroad, even a small hiccup at login can turn into real anxiety, so we designed a screen that never hides your options. We also reworded the switch link in all six languages so that what will happen is clear at a glance. Rather than adding new mechanisms, we prioritized making sure you never get lost on the screen in front of you — this update is one more step in that direction.

What's next

We'll keep refining the login screens and their wording to make them even clearer, improving step by step based on real usage patterns and the questions we receive.
